Onechord.net turns 15: Simon Joyner – Nostalgia Blues

simonjoyners

File under the best albums of the decade. Simon Joyner’s Grass, Branch & Bone is a masterpiece. You might remember that I praised this a couple of times last year when it came out on Woodsist. I loved it then and my feelings have only grown stronger during the past year. It’s the only 2015 release that I still listen to on a weekly basis and find it thrilling, moving and beautiful each and every time. If there are songwriting schools, this album should be a mandatory lesson. Somewhere in the crossroad of Lou, Leonard & Townes and filled with absolutely wonderful songs. All songs are winners, but I need to go with Nostalgia Blues on this pointless anniversary thingy, because it’s the first song I heard from the album and instantly fell in love with it. Old Days, Jefferson Reed.. Oh well.. all of them are equally amazing. Grass, Branch & Bone has pretty much been my favourite album in the world during the past few months.

Onechord.net reaches 15 years on September 17. Leading up to that, I will be sharing some songs that I hold dear. Songs that I’ve loved the most during the years I’ve been making this. So basicly just some nostalgic crap, but with a damn brilliant soundtrack.

Tim Easton – American Fork

easotn

Tim Easton’s new gorgeous album American Fork came out on September 2, 2016. This is one of those co-releases with Last Chance (USA) and At The Helm Records (UK). This new one is uplifting and little adventurous, but I’m perfectly fine with that. Being miserable for no apparent reason is one of the few things I’m extremely good at, so instead of continuously relating with the saddest of songs, it’s quite refreshing to listen to such an uplifting album for a change. This album opener Right Before Your Own Eyes is so extremely catchy that it should be a hit. The kind of stuff that I would love to hear on the radio.

Steven James Adams – Kings Of The Back Of The Bus (video)

The new Steven James Adams album Old Magick came out in March on one of the most trustworthy pop labels Fortuna Pop! I’ve been a Steven James Adams fan since The Broken Family Band days and picked up this new one early in the summer. Such a good record once again. I’m very fond of the song Kings of the Back of the Bus although I wonder if I relate to it a little more than what would be advised. A music video for this great song surfaced a couple of weeks ago and you can catch that below.

Onechord.net turns 15: Bobby Emmett – Queen of Hearts

emmett

I recently learned that the magnificent Bobby Emmett plays in Sturgill Simpson’s band these days. That’s pretty cool, because I do love Sturgill. However, I still hope Bobby finds some time to write his own pop masterpieces as well. In my books, his 2009 release Learning Love is one of the finest pop albums of this current century. It was the album of the year back in 2009 and I still love it to bits. All power pop kids should have this one. It has the hooks, the melodies and it’s catchy-as-hell. Albeit Sturgill’s music might actually be closer to my current taste in music, records like this are still the foundation of music taste. Here is Queen of Hearts, the brilliant opener of Bobby Emmett’s album Learning Love.
