OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #252

Oh dear. What a release week. Love all you musicians, but how about some solidarity for us new music blogger-hobbyists haha. Or the listener. I think I need to buy a pint to everyone who actually listen this whole playlist. If my non-existent math skills are correct there’s 36 albums on this list below. Now that’s a lot of new music. Way too much for one man to listen, digest and form an opinion during one weekend, but here’s my best effort.

New Sufjan Stevens is the big one of the week. I didn’t really got into it yet, because I think the first listening of that deserves my full attention. Even just reading about it hits hard. I’ll find quiet moment when there’s just me, headphones and Sufjan. So far I’ve spent the most with the gorgeous new Jason Hawk Harris album. Great to see him back. New John R. Miller, Tre Burt and Lauren O’Connell were also at the top of my list on this crowded week. I’ve only touched the surface of most of the album released, so I have no idea which will become biggest favorites. However, we got new albums also from Nat Vazer, The David Tattersall Group, Freschard & Stanley Brinks, Jacksonport, Mutual Benefit, Adeline Hotel, Mary Lattimore, Dream Sitch, Vanishing Twin, Meernaa, Jolie Holland, Chris Brain, P.J.M. Bond, John Baumann, Hello June, Jeremy Moses Curtis, Victoria Bailey, Espanola, Hannah Gillispie, John Davey, Bewilder, Tele Novella, Lower Plenty, Joey Nebulous, Half Stack, Class, Elijah Johnston, The Bures Band and A.Savage.

The new Lätsä album is my favorite on the Finnish part of this playlist. It’s a bit later than usual on the playlist. Other gems there are album from Sir Liselot and singles from Viitasen Piia, M, Palor, (Sulut) and Kaksipäinen Koira.

And finally the international song of the week is the new Jeffrey Martin song. In fact, might be a candidate for song of the year too. That one sure hits hard. A further reminder that leave some space for that album on your AOTY ballot. The album is out in November. After two singles, I already know that it will be on my list. Other early faves came from Andrew Bryant, Julie Arsenault, Maybel, Joanna Sternberg, Uni Boys, The Resonant Rogues, Sean Burns, Shawn Hess, Kathryn Legendre.. Again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. I’m quite busy next weekend, but I hope I manage to do this at some point. No definite promises. Hopefully it’s less crowded release week. If I don’t have the time, I’ll cover two weeks on the following weekend. I’ll inform you on social media, if I’m not doing it. Until next time. Love love love.

Oh and do buy the vinyl/cd/download. Spotify and other streaming services are perfect for these introductory purposes, but try to buy at least the music that matter the most to you

I’ll make the playlist on Spotify and then transfer it to Tidal. This means a few tracks might be missing from the Tidal version, if they are not available on that platform. Usually it’s 1-3 tracks that are not on Tidal. There’s a bunch of older episodes on my Spotify profile, if you miss an episode or want to revisit.

If you are looking this after a week has gone, the embedded Spotify will show the latest playlist. I’ll just update the same playlist because if someone wants to follow it, they can just follow that one list and will get a new set of songs each weekend.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #251

Another very crowded release week. No chance for one man to cover all that during one weekend, but here’s my best effort.

My album of the week is the new from The Evening Sons. What a wonderful power pop blast right there. New Evangeline Gentle and Jerry David DeCicca albums were also high on my list. Wilco is obviously the big one, but I don’t usually start with the household names and therefore I have barely scratched the surface there. I will get to it eventually and most likely will really like it. We also got albums from Colin Miller, Omar Velasco, Maria Elana Silva, Meredith Lane, The Country Side of Harmonica Sam, Lindsay Lou, Ross Cooper, Jack Browning, Jerry Joseph, Mojohand, Casey Neill & The Norway Rats, No-No Boy, Roberta Lea, Thorsten Nesch (EP), The Small Intestines, Jim Rioux (EP), John P. Strohm, CJ Stranger, Kurt Baker, The Sextones and Say She She. Oh yeah and then there’s that Setting album. Probably great, but didn’t include it here because I’m not sure does that really work on a playlist. But check it out for sure.

Finnish sections starts with the gorgeous new album releases from Tinyhawk & Bizzarro and Ahti Kulo. Then we have some awesome singles too like the return of Kaspar and a debut from new band called Oho! Other great Finnish singles came from Pambikallio, Antti Autio, Suudelmat and Kaino Kim Vieno.

International singles are again buried on the second half of the playlist due to the sheer amount of album releases. Steven van Betten’s new song can be the song of the week, because it’s just a lovely and I love that. Other early faves came from Bry Webb, BenBen, Kacey Johansing, Jerry Leger, Dylan LeBlanc, Kelly Hunt and Duff Thompson. Again just to name a few. I haven’t really had a lot of time to listen yet, so who knows what become the biggest faves.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. Next up Jason Ringenberg live here in Turku. See you local folks there. Back here next week with another episode of this new music project. Love and empathy.

If you are looking this after a week has gone, the embedded Spotify will show the latest playlist. I’ll just update the same playlist because if someone wants to follow it, they can just follow that one list and will get a new set of songs each weekend.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #249

First new music weekly as a 22 years old music blog. That’s quite a long time if I may so. Something to be proud of I guess. Thank you all who still listen/read no matter whether it’s frequently or occasionally. Love you all.

This was a magnificent release week led by the new Margo Cilker album. That’s my album of the week, but there’s several special ones here for sure. Will Johnson was the other I had highlighted in advance, but oh my there’s so much to love this week. We also have new albums from Buffalo Nichols, Stephen Wilson Jr, Van Plating, Matt Paxton & The Pintos (EP), Lady Apple Tree, Woods, Dolly Valentine, Viv & Riley, Bahamas, Sarah Jane Scouten, Charlie Kaplan, Corinne Sharlet (EP), Isaac Vallentin, Sarah Mary Chadwick, Mitski, Vagabon and Rachel Sermanni.

The new Janne Westerlund album is the Finnish favorite of the week. Legendary Radiopuhelimet has a new album too. Plus then we have great new singles from Krypta, Lätsä, Vino Puu, Sir Liselot and Favourite Colours.

Julie Arsenault and Gonzalez Smith can share the international song of the week honors. They are quite different, but I love them both. Other early faves came from Katsy Pline, Skyway Man, Kyle Cox, Will Payne Harrison feat Tabitha Weeks, William Alexander, Peter Oren, Willy Tea Taylor & Fellership.. Again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. Thanks again for the past 22 years and I hope you stay with me as long as this sound adventure continues. I have no idea, but at least right now I don’t have plans to quit. Who knows whether that will change. But yeah. Love love love. Back next week with the episode #250. Another milestone on the horizon there.
