Stripmall Ballads, Hello Emerson, Adam Remnant and Crow vs Lion

Another quick round up of songs I love, because that’s all I manage these days. Today’s US journey starts from Maryland with songwriter Phillips Saylor Wisor and together we are meeting Susan at the Crossroads. It’s the opening song of the great new Stripmall Ballads album Distant that came out on the 1st of February. A bit of a low-key release for such a high quality album, so here’s my small part in spreading the word about this beauty. You can purchase the whole gorgeous album from his website.

Next up is a midwest / Ohio music video double from the Anyway Records vaults. First Columbus, Ohio and Am I the Midwest? from the new Hello Emerson album How to Cook Everything. I’ve mentioned it before, but a revisit is in order due to its undeniable magic. One of my favorite records of the year so far.

And then over to Athens, Ohio and to the finest music of 2018. Lately songwriter Adam Remnant has been getting into film photography and in the process created a lyric video for a song called Ohio from his fabulous 2018 album Sourwood.

Final stop on this little round up is Bucks County, Pennsylvania and the 2019 album The Heart, The Time, The Pen from Crow vs Lion. It’s a music project led by songwriter Dan Gallagher. A long time blog favourite Raph Cutrufello (from Hezekiah Jones) co-produced and helped him to bring his vision to fruition. The Heart, The Time, The Pen is a concept album revolving around these three themes and I recommened listening to the whole thing to get a full grasp of the depth of it. Here’s the new music video Waking The Truth along with one of my own favourites Missouri to get started. Follow the bandcamp link to hear/buy the whole album.

Ali Holder, Jess Jocoy, Cassidy Waring and Kristina Murray

A quick run of a couple of singles that have been dear to me during the recent weeks. Starting from Austin, Texas with the new Ali Holder single Bruja. It’s the first single from the forthcoming album Uncomfortable Truths. I had this powerful song on the playlist last week and kinda badly fell in love with it during the week. It was the song I kept on returning to all the time and quite frankly should have started the playlist. What a tremendous song and I can’t wait to hear the album.

Another big personal favorite has been the new single Love Her Wild from Nashville-based americana songwriter Jess Jocoy. It’s an outtake from her debut album Such a Long Way that is due out on the 10th of April. Everything I’ve heard so far sounds absolutely gorgeous and I’m sure this is going to be a special record. Here’s the single along with official acoustic video of Hope (Such a Long Way).

Next we make a visit to Vancouver, British Columbia for a set of magnificent singles by Cassidy Waring. If you follow the weekly playlist, you have already heard these fabulous songs she has released during the last six months. Still about time to drop one hear too, because these have all been important to me. Personal favorite changes regularly, but let’s go with Leaving on this little blog entry. Check out the other three by hitting the links on the Bandcamp player.

And for this last entry we’ll take a step back to Nashville and to the finest music of 2018. Kristina Murray is a great country singer-songwriter and her album Southern Ambrosia was one of the highlight of that year. Such an expectional country album is always relevant, but this time there’s more reasons to mention it than just its timeless greatness. There’s a brand new music video album for outtake Tell Me, a beautiful and sad country ballad that she co-wrote with Logan Ledger.

Aaron Beckum, Sam Burton, Peter Oren and Dan Reeder

The blog has been pretty much on a standstill for a couple of weeks (outside the weekly playlist) for various of reasons, but here’s one of those quick round up posts of songs/releases that I love. Starting with from Los Angeles, California with this brand new Aaron Beckum EP Songs From a Triangle Room. It was produced by Grandaddy’s Jason Lytle and contains some new ones and some Beckum classics like Born Forlorn. Here’s the music video for Jagged Coast along with another EP cut Mountains from the new EP.

Sticking in Los Angeles for this next one too although Sam Burton is originally from Salt Lake City. The great Tompkins Square label recently signed him and his label debut will come out in mid-2020. The first single I Can Go With You surfaced a couple of weeks ago and Madelynn De La Rosa directed this lovely music video for it. It’s also available as 7″ single, so follow the links on the bandcamp player to order a copy.

Next we take our bags over to Bloomington, Indiana for the latest Peter Oren single. He has a new album The Greener Pasture coming out on the 24th of April on Western Vinyl and therefore he has released a set of singles in advance. Caroline Sallee made a gorgeous single for his most recent song Gnawed to the Bone (Come By). Below that you’ll find another great tune called John Wayne.

Wrapping this little blog entry in Nürnberg, Germany with a couple of fabulous Dan Reeder songs. I’m not exactly sure is there an album on the horizon, but Oh Boy Records has released a bunch of his singles during the past couple of months and they are all rather remarkable. His voice sort of reminds me of that Ted Lucas album that I love so dearly. I don’t know how I managed to miss him until now. The cover art of his records are very familiar, so I’ve stumbled upon them in the past but for some reasons I haven’t properly listened to him before this new set of singles. My loss for sure, because I love the songs. Here’s a couple of my personal favorites Young at Heart and Love and Hate.
