OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #191

Another week, another new music weekly.

A late midsummer edition of the new music weekly. I’m sure there’s a lot of stuff missing from this one. Apologies in advance.

A big release week this one with some parade-worthy album releases. I’m sure Dwight approves when I say that I absolutely love that Joan Shelley album. Such a special album. Damien Jurado and The Burning Hell round up my big three for the week, but there’s a whole lot more as well. This week gave us great albums from Field Guides, Young Guv, Reverend Baron, Lindsay Clark, Gregory Dwane (EP), The Barlow, Devil’s Coattails, Caleb Nichols, Mikey Erg, The Hellacopters (covers EP), Rob Joynes (EP), Martin Courtney, Kevin Galloway, Fountaindale and Jason McNiff (covers album).

The big one from Finland has been out for a while on Bandcamp, but few hours after last week’s episode I noticed that the Jukka Nousiainen & Kumpp album is now also on these evil streaming services. Absolutely love the album. The other Finnish album on the list is also a few weeks old, because I managed to miss the beautiful Samanna album in early June. Other Finnish cuts this week are gorgeous singles from Jani Matti Juhani and Samae Koskinen.

International single of the week is the new one from Julianna Riolino. I dig the Judee Sill homage in the cover too. Also wonderful to hear new stuff from Little Mazarn and see them on the Dear Life Records roster. That label has become one of my favorites in the world during the past year or two. Other favorites came from Tiffany Williams, Cactus Lee, Kelsey Waldon, Alela Diane and Eli Winter. Just to name a few again. You’ll find them all below.

That’s all for this week. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. I started making a small mid-year fave list, but we’ll see if I manage to finish it. Love from a distance.

Oh and do buy the vinyl/cd/download. Spotify and other streaming services are perfect for these introductory purposes, but try to buy at least the music that matter the most to you

I’ll make the playlist on Spotify and then transfer it to Tidal. This means a few tracks might be missing from the Tidal version, if they are not available on that platform. Usually it’s 1-3 tracks that are not on Tidal. There’s a bunch of older episodes on my Spotify profile, if you miss an episode or want to revisit.

If you are looking this after a week has gone, the embedded Spotify will show the latest playlist. I’ll just update the same playlist because if someone wants to follow it, they can just follow that one list and will get a new set of songs each weekend.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #190

Another week, another new music weekly.

A bit behind schedule this week, because I was away for most of the week. But here’s the Sunday edition of the new music weekly.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #189

Another week, another new music weekly.

The release of the week has to be the new Kassi Valazza EP. So thrilled to have new Kassi Valazza songs to love and hold dear. Such a great surprise release. American Aquarium and Michael Rault albums were also on top of my list for this week and did not disappoint. This week also gave us great new releases from Michaela Anne, Reilly Downes (EP), Nathan Xander (this one is from last week), The Inflorescence, Diners, Joe Purdy, Mapache, Thorsten Nesch (EP), TJ Douglas, Graham Hunt, A Vulture Wake (EP, Chad Price’s band), The Slocan Ramblers and Son Parapluie (from last week as well).

The Finnish highlight is the new Bobby Oroza album. One hell of a soul record. Puhelinseksi and Mara Balls also released great new albums this week. Tears Apart album is a few weeks old, but I had missed it before. Only new single is from Janne Tapion Sisäinen Avaruus (it’s a double, so check out the other one too. Oh yeah and I also included the b-side of Amuri’s monster cover single from the past week. I think that’s all I had from Finland. I’m sure there were more, but they flew under my radar.

There were many worthy candidates, but the international song of the week is Sylvie’s new beauty. Very fond of that Fiver tune as well. Other faves came from Courtney Marie Andrews, Adia Victoria, Arlo McKinley, The Burning Hell, Bonny Light Horseman and The Sadies. Just to name a few. You’ll find the all below.

That’s all for this week. Like, share, follow and all the usual annoying promotional nonsense. It all matters. Progress on other aspects of the blog is still non-existant. Maybe I should at least do a quick mid-year fave report if nothing else. We’ll see. Love from a distance.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #188

Another week, another new music weekly.

188 done and maybe 12 to go. This was quite a big one and didn’t have time to listen everything on one weekend. Too much new music for one dude to cover on his spare time. But here’s still my take of the finest new music of the week.

Drive-By Truckers and S.G. Goodman albums are the big ones this week, but early on I’ve been equally into the Jack M. Senff album. All extremely highly recommended. This week also gave as great releases from Desolation Horse, Nicki Bluhm, Ryan Lee Crosby, Paige Hargrove, Angel Olsen, Chelsea Rose, Ural Thomas & The Pain, Extra Arms, Andrew Bird, Teenage Tom Petties, Brenna Lowrie (Neil Young cover EP), Mary Gauthier, Andrew Gabbard (live EP) M G Boulter (EP), H Self (EP) Queen Of Jeans (EP), Nataly Dawn, Matt York and Jack Klatt (EP). Oh and this one also includes a song from Jenny Berkel’s album that came out a couple weeks ago. I had the advance singles on this playlist, but managed to miss the actual album release a few weeks back.

The cover magic from Amuri is the Finnish highlight of the week. Love their version of Kestääkö siivet. Other Finnish gems of the week are album from Team Play, EP from Marian Valinta and singles from Pekka Tuomi, Ite Eerola, Kadotettu Nuoruus and Bobby Oroza.

New Anna Tivel song of is of course the international song of the week. One of my favorite songwriters on my favorite record label. I got nothing but love for that. A fabulous week otherwise too. There’s new ones from big personal favorites like Julie Arsenault & Max Garcia Conover, Joan Shelley, Abby Hamilton, John Calvin Abney, Mariel Buckley, Nikki Lane, Caleb Caudle, Wilder Maker, Rachel Brooke, Kyle Cox, Dakota Theim, Michael Rault and the list goes on and on. Check them all out below.

That all for this week. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. Especially important now when I seriously consider whether or not I will continue past the 200 mark. So if you want this to continue, hitting that like / follow button is an easy way to convince me that it might be worth it to keep this thing alive. Oh and happy STHLM Americana festival for all those who celebrate next weekend. I have to skip this year, but I hope I will be able to be there in 2023. Love from a distance.
