Onechord.net turns 15: Norfolk & Western – At Dawn or After Dusk

norfolk

I have selected only fairly new crushes so far, so here’s one love affair from the early days of One Chord To Another. This affair turned into a lifelong commitment and this album is still very dear to me. Even though I know all songs by heart I still regularly listen to this 2004 album from Norfolk & Western. Adam Selzer has done a lot of great things both as a songwriter/musician and as a producer, but for me Dusk in Cold Parlours is his masterpiece. It’s been about 12 years since this came out on Hush Records, so I suppose it’s already safe to say that this is one of my all-time favorites. I’m fond of almost every song on the album, but if I have to pick just one, it has to be this album closer At Dawn or After Dusk that perfectly wraps the album together.

Onechord.net reaches 15 years on September 17. Leading up to that, I will be sharing some songs that I hold dear. Songs that I’ve loved the most during the years I’ve been making this. So basicly just some nostalgic crap, but with a damn brilliant soundtrack.

John Calvin Abney – Far Cries and Close Calls (pre-order)

abne

Here’s an early shout out about the forthcoming John Calvin Abney album Far Cries and Close Calls that is due out September 23, 2016. I’ll get back to this later in the fall when it’s out and available. However, the pre-order and one song Goodbye Temporarily are already up at Bandcamp. I’ve listened to the album a couple of times and I think it’s awesome as was expected. John Calvin Abney is an Oklahoma-based songwriter and musician. Besides doing his own gorgeous thing, you might hear him play on a bunch of other great albums (John Moreland, Small Houses, Chris Porter, M.Lockwood Porter etc). The new album will be released by Horton Records in USA and CRS/Continental Record Services in Europe. Here’s the excellent first outtake Goodbye Temporarily that premiered at Popmatters a week ago.

Onechord.net turns 15: J.E. Sunde – A Blinding Flash of Light

sunde

A Blinding Flash Of Light by J.E. Sunde was a huge addiction a couple of years ago and while I might not be listening to it every day anymore, I still hold it in extremely high regard. This song became a part of who I am and I will carry it with me as long as I live. If this site still exists in 2020 and I decide to pick the top 50 songs of the decade or something, I’m confident that this will be among my first picks. The whole album Shapes that Kiss the Lips of God is a treasure and this song is the brightest diamond on it. The album came out on Cartouche Records back in 2014. Also the earlier The Daredevil Christopher Wright stuff is awesome. Oh and the song Rabbit Rag and I that isn’t on this album is also unearthly brilliant. I can’t wait to hear more music from J.E.Sunde.

And here’s a music video for the song Easy Kid as a bonus.
