OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #240

A quick delayed new music weekly, because live music took over my weekend. First Kassi Valazza concert on Friday and then Savulohirock on Saturday. I only began listening to new stuff this Sunday evening, so I haven’t had time to listen a whole lot. But here it goes anyway.

Sam Burton and Colter Wall are my big double this week. Pretty sure I’m going to love those records when I have the time to properly listen to them during the coming week. Plenty of other most likely great things too. There’s albums from Hayward Williams, Ryan Curtis, Jackson and the Janks, Eric Long, Palehound, Gabe Lee, Josaleigh Pollett and The Goods (EP).

From Finland there’s new singles from Litku Klemetti and Väisänen. Plus a few months old from Kot-kat. A new band for me that I saw live at Savulohirock and liked them. So I included their latest single here too.

Plenty of international singles too. I’ve barely listened them at this point so kinda impossible to name some big faves here. But I look forward to listening to new Tre Burt, Beth Bombara, Joey O’Neil, Jacksonport, Rae Fitzgerald, Bonnie Prince Billy, Bahamas, Logan Ledger and so forth. There’s also a fabulous Nanci Griffith cover by Kelsey Waldon and late John Prine.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. I’m on vacation for the next three weeks. Plans are still a bit up in the air after this weekend’s Tampere trip. Well other than Ilmiö Festival and especially Kristiina concert. So new music weekly might or might not happen during this time. Or it might happen outside weekend. I’ll let you know on the social media, if the update frequency is different from the usual routine. Love.

Oh and do buy the vinyl/cd/download. Spotify and other streaming services are perfect for these introductory purposes, but try to buy at least the music that matter the most to you

I’ll make the playlist on Spotify and then transfer it to Tidal. This means a few tracks might be missing from the Tidal version, if they are not available on that platform. Usually it’s 1-3 tracks that are not on Tidal. There’s a bunch of older episodes on my Spotify profile, if you miss an episode or want to revisit.

If you are looking this after a week has gone, the embedded Spotify will show the latest playlist. I’ll just update the same playlist because if someone wants to follow it, they can just follow that one list and will get a new set of songs each weekend.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #239

Another fairly quick summer edition of the new music weekly. A bit slow release week too. Usually is especially around the 4th of July.

Max Bien Kahn is the album of the week. This week also gave us beautiful new albums from Julie Byrne, Miles Miller, Michael C. Duguay, The Finks, Your Heart Breaks, PJ Harvey, Riders of the Canyon (a couple weeks old, but missed it before), PJ Harvey, Heidi Lynne Gluck, Aaron Boyd (a week old), Chris Stamey, Tom Curless & The 46% and The Photocopies (EP). Plus there’s a Nick Drake tribute album.

Juha Mäki-Patola and his beautiful new single is the whole Finnish section this time around. I’m sure there had to be much more.

New Joe Bourdet song is the new international single of the week. Matt Mitchell Music Co is a new one for me, but instantly loved their song. Some great soulful gems too from Pale Jay and The Sextones. Other faves came from Tobacco City, Teenage Fanclub, Smug Brothers, William Matheny and Steven van Betten. Just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters a great deal. The second part of my Summer vacation starts on Friday. How it will effect the new music weekly and the blog remains to be seen. Plans are still a bit in the air, but it starts with a Kassi Valazza concert in Tampere on the 14th of July. See you there. I think I will be making this next weekend, but I think it goes to Sunday or even Monday due to that Tampere trip. I let you know on the socials, if it’s delayed or won’t happen altogether. OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #238

Back here again. This one tries again to cover the new music of the past two weeks, because I missed last weekend due to midsummer & extra Sunday work shift. I know I missed a ton, but here are the ones that didn’t flew under my radar.

The album of the week(s) is the new Lucinda Williams album. Only singles seem to be streaming at least at the moment. I bought the vinyl yesterday. Joanna Sternberg was another big album release. Mark Tegio is a new one for me, but love his EP on quick listen. The past two weeks also gave us great albums from Graves, Johanna Samuels, Brigid Mae Power, Tommy Prine, Richard Tripps, The Pink Stones, Nathan Seeckts, Fleur Wiber, Theo Lawrence (EP), Caitlin Canty, Malcolm Holcombe, Dylan Rodrigue, High Water Marks, Leo Walrus, Special Friend, Desert Mambas (EP), Nat Myers, Phi-Psonics, James & The Giants, Hayden Pedigo, M.Ward and Thorsten Nesch (EP).

Somewhat quiet on the Finnish side of things, but there’s some excellent singles from Sami Heikkilä, Janne Tapion Sisäinen Avaruus, Helmi Ada, Kari Tapiiri and Tams. Bonus points to Sami Heikkilä for mentioning my hometown Keuruu on his gorgeous double single.

The song of the week(s) is the new Hurry single. Love that band and it’s again such a pop gem. There’s actually plenty of other pop treasures both before and after the Hurry single on the playlist. So check at least those, if you can’t stand the americana heavy parts of this. Other single favorites came from Margo Cilker, Matt Paxton & The Pintos, Diners, Brower, Jerry David DeCicca, Mark Fredson, Humbird, Leah Senior and so forth. Again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. Most likely back next week. Hard to say for sure during these summer weeks. Love love love.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #237

Another quite busy week with GA-20 concert on Saturday and an extra work shift on Sunday. So I didn’t have a whole lot time to listen new music and definitely missed a lot good stuff. But here’s a quick Sunday roundabout of what I managed to find.

Album of the week is the new J.E. Sunde. I’m a long time fan and this new album again seems to be wonderful. This was a mighty good country/americana week too and there’s like a dozen albums that I’m eager to listen properly during the coming week. There’s new albums from Summer Dean, Brennen Leigh, Annie Bartholomew, Casey Prestwood, Son Volt, Ags Connolly, Possessed By Paul James, Austin Stambaugh, The Teskey Brothers, Fust, Maya Elise & The Good Dream, Diamond Grinder, Deer Tick, Maya Elise & The Good Dream, SunYears, Bonny Doon, U.S.Highball, Pretty Matty, Tough Age, The Reds, Pinks and Purples (EP), Pickle Darling, Spider Bite and Danny Paul Grody. And yeah, these were definitely not all country. Some great pop stuff there too etc.

A less crowded Finnish release week, but we have some gems for sure. There’s a new album from Keidas and singles from Maria Milvus, Janeveera, Bobby Oroza, Pekko Käppi, Honey Crisp and Vasas flora och fauna.

And from the international single side of things we have wonderful new ones from Lauren O’Connell, Brigid Mae Power, Tre Burt, Matt Harlan, Kevin Carducci, Lydia Loveless, John P. Strohm, Adeem the Artist, Kyle Cox. Just to name a few. Oh and new one from Sparklehorse archives. Full album on the way.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. Next weekend is midsummer aka Juhannus. I’m not sure if I’m going to make this or not. Maybe 51% chance that there will be one, but we’ll see. No promises at this point. Love and empathy.
