Last Leaves (3/4 of The Lucksmiths)

The Lost and Lonesome Recording Co. sent a newsletter about Last Leaves that made me really happy. The reason for my excitement is the fact that Last Leaves is a new project for several The Lucksmiths members and oh how I loved that australian indie pop band. Marty Donald, Mark Monnone and Louis Richter are all members of Last Leaves and Great Earthquake’s Noah Symons concludes the line-up. They already have some shows coming up in Australia. Unfortunately there’s no releases at this point. However, this demo of The Nights You Drove Me Home that Marty Donald made by himself already sounds pretty amazing.

Jukka Ässä – Uusi maa

Jukka Ässä has a new single Uusi maa. Jukka Ässä was formerly known as Tapes and he released two beautiful albums under that moniker. After changing the language to Finnish, he also changed the name. Hopefully it’s soon time for the debut full-lenght as Jukka Ässä, because I’ve certainly been waiting for it for a long while. Based on the few concerts I’ve seen over the last few years, he definitely has enough wonderful new material to make a great record.

Multi-talented Jukka also directed this music video for the new single Uusi maa.

Couch by Couchwest – Where the beer is cheaper and the only hipster is you

I thought that it’s my duty to inform the Finnish folks that the coolest music festival of the year starts today. Most likely this will also be the only festival that I will attend this year. The festival is obviously the annual online music festival Couch by Couchwest. The idea is simple. Austin is a long drive (actually a long flight from Finland) and you might have a thing called “life” getting in the way. And even if you have the money and time to show up, it can be inconvenient. Way too many people, traffic and all that nonsense. So why not instead just sit comfortably on your own couch and watch awesome music performances that artists from all over the world have recorder just for CXCW. Maybe CXCW could even get some Finnish entries this year. The rules are simple. Couch By Couchwest accepts all submissions from musicians as long as it is recorded for the Couch by Couchwest festival. So no old home videos. New unique videos recorded for CXCW. Couch is not a must. CXCW supports creativity. Anywhere but stage is alright.

Highlight last year was Neko Case. It will be exciting to see who will submit videos this time around. Based on twitter, the CXCW audience will get to see some fantastic videos from great artists. Looking forward to the festival. Read more about Couch by Couchwest on their website.

Gentleman Jesse – Leaving Atlanta

Some rock action after all those beautiful folk entries. Last night I got a promo mail that made me excited. There’s a new Gentleman Jesse album coming out in march. I really love the debut. That’s a damn brilliant record. Full of 70s punky power pop and rock’n’roll. It’s a kick ass album. The follow-up Leaving Atlanta will be released by Douchemaster Records and it will hit the stores on 12th of march. Newmerica made this video for the song Rooting For the Underdog.

And of course I have to post this classic from the debut as well.
