FLAVOUR OF THE MONTH TÄYTTÄÄ 12 VUOTTA

Turkulainen kitarapopklubi Flavour Of The Month täyttää jo 12 vuotta. Viimeiset 8 vuotta FOTM on toiminut Pikku-Torressa ja esitellyt aina kuukausittain uusia, paikallisia tai tuntemattomia alan liveakteja tyylilleen uskollisesti, mutta laajakatseisesti ja mahdollisimman monipuolisesti toimintaolosuhteet huomioiden.

Flavour Of The Monthin 12 vuotta juhlitaan Pikku-Torressa lauantaina 4.9. Esiintymässä tuolloin ovat turkulais-helsinkiläinen Nopat, joka esittelee kesällä ilmestynyttä debyyttivinyylisingleään sekä kuuma helsinkiläistulokas The Spoonshiners, joka soittaa rottaisesti rämisevää voimapoppia Amerikan vaihteella. Bändiä on kuvailtu mm. Lynyrd Skynyrdin ja Hüsker Dün ja toisaalta Dead Moonin ja humalaisen CCR:n sekoitukseksi. Bändiä uskaltaa suositella ainakin esim. The Hold Steadyn, Drive-By Truckersin, The Replacementsin tai Neil Youngin Crazy Horsen ystäville.

FOTM:in synttäreille on tutut halvat liput ja muutenkin matala kynnys. Levymusiikista vastaavat tutusti Flavourin DJ-tiimi.

News: Nopat 7″

Truly wonderful news and it took me several weeks to write about it. Debut release by Nopat has been out and available for a few weeks. It’s a seven inch single Yksinäisten tiet / Rauhaton and I love it to bits. Nopat is a fairly new band, but these boys have given us some fabulous pop music with their earlier groups such as Leaky Soles, Red Carpet and Nopat continues on the same level of excellence. Think of younger finnish version of Mojave 3 (Excuses For Travellers -era) or Luna for example. Well better not to think anything that I have to say and just listen to this beautiful a-side of the single below.

Janne Laurila & Nopat

As previously mentioned, Janne Laurila’s album Kultaisia pisteitä is due out in september. However, you can already take a sneak preview, because today Janne added three new songs from the upcoming album to his myspace. Oh and now Janne’s band has a name. It isn’t called Nopat eventhough that made a good sounding title to this blog entry. It’s called Tuhlaajapojat. So look out for Janne Laurila ja Tuhlaajapojat concerts next fall if you want to see some of the finest live performances this country has to offer.

Nopat also added some great new songs. Tune in their myspace to experience their greatness. Or come to Flavour Of The Month’s summer edition where Nopat share the stage with College Fall (aus) and Jaakko Söderström (Ben’s Diapers frontman’s first solo gig). The event will take place at Pikku Torre, Turku on 27th of june. More information about this FOTM event later on, but now you can already mark it to your calendars. See ya there.

Nopat, The Wonderminers & Beacon St. Radiants

Your blogger made a huge mistake, went to nostalgic mode and installed CM 01-02 back to his computer. If you know the game, you are aware that it has a tendency to destroy one’s social life and take control of all your spare time. While I’m trying to quit and become more active blogger, you can listen to these great bands below.

Nopat, The Wonderminers and Beacon Street Radiants have all added some new songs to their myspaces. They are wonderful bands and eventhough these are only demos or unfinished mixes, they sound bloody great to me.
