OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #180

Another week, another new music weekly.

Sorry for the delay. I’ve been day-to-day with non-covid illness since Thursday. Still not fully recovered, but slowly getting there. At least I managed to put this thing together. It might not be a very deep dive and I’m sure a lot is missing. But here it goes anyway.

Icarus Phoenix, Carla Geneve and VanWyck are my big three of the week. We also got great new albums from Renata Zeiguer, Zachary Cole, Matt Gold, Good Looks, Oceanator, Glory Daze (EP), River Whyless, Madeleine Kelson, Kate Rhudy, Ryan Egan, Dillon Vanders, Calexico and Father John Misty. A few other things too. Pete Mancini has a new album that is not yet streaming plus Mo Troper’s power pop monster from 2021 is now out on vinyl. Check those two out on Bandcamp for example.

Very small Finnish section this time around. There’s an album from Hanna-Maria Lifländer plus singles from Itä-Hollola Installaatio, Bobby Oroza and Pastis. I’m sure there had to be more.

And last but not least the new international singles. Plenty of great ones there. Very fond of the new ones from Joan Shelley, Layten Kramer, Teenage Fanclub, Matt Dorrien, Kyle Cox, S.G. Goodman, Arlo McKinley, Scott Ballew, Mila Webb, The Reds, Pinks and Purples, Thee Illusions, The Deslondes… and the list goes on and on and I might as well name check everything.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. Next week is Easter. I probably will do this anyway, but I have no idea whether that will be on Saturday, Sunday or Monday. We’ll see. Too close to 200 to stop anyway. Maybe that would be a good round number to quit this crazy project and do something else with my weekends. Love from a distance.

Oh and do buy the vinyl/cd/download. Spotify and other streaming services are perfect for these introductory purposes, but try to buy at least the music that matter the most to you

I’ll make the playlist on Spotify and then transfer it to Tidal. This means a few tracks might be missing from the Tidal version, if they are not available on that platform. Usually it’s 1-3 tracks that are not on Tidal. There’s a bunch of older episodes on my Spotify profile, if you miss an episode or want to revisit.

If you are looking this after a week has gone, the embedded Spotify will show the latest playlist. I’ll just update the same playlist because if someone wants to follow it, they can just follow that one list and will get a new set of songs each weekend.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #179

Another week, another new music weekly.

I had a dreadful headache this morning and therefore I didn’t have as much time / energy to work on this as usual. I kinda wanted to leave this for tomorrow, but forced myself to finish it tonight. Sorry for all the typos and stuff I missed. I try do a better job next week.

Isaac Vallentin and Erisy Watt can share the album of the week honor. Very fond of these albums after just a few spins. Extremely highly recommended albums. A long time favorite Christian Lee Hutson fulfills this week’s big three. That’s not all though and there’s beautiful new albums from Vaden Landers, Kayla Von Der Heide, Elliah Heifetz, The Dead Tongues, The Hellacopters, Molly Tuttle & The Golden Highway, Paul Cauthen, Papercuts, Kathleen Edwards (EP), Blue Wilson, nudista (EP), Jenna & The Janes, Karima Walker (album of demos), Jeremie Albino (EP), The Wave Pictures (EP), Clea Anais, Sure Fire Soul Ensemble and Jenna Rae.

The Finnish section has albums from Muuan Mies and J. Karjalainen plus a run of singles from SaintPolis, Maustetytöt X Agents and Antero Kaksikäsi. I’m sure there had to be more.

My favorite international singles are the new ones from Willi Carlisle and Simon Joyner. Some first class songwriting there for sure. Other big faves came from the ones like John Calvin Abney, Izaak Opatz, Devil’s Coattails, Nathan Kalish, John Craigie, Dungeon of Skeletons, Icarus Phoenix and Angel Olsen. Again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Too tired to write more tonight. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. To know that someone reads and/or listens gives a reason to continue. Now I need some sleep. Back next week. Love from a distance.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #178

Another week, another new music weekly.

New Ian Noe album is the leader of the pack on this weekly shangri-la. Other big ones are the new album from Freakons, Beau Jennings & The Tigers and Bailey Bigger. Oh yeah and the ep/single from The Reds, Pinks and Purples, which has been out for a while . Don’t know how I missed that pop beauty. Maybe I didn’t expect more greatness so soon after the album. There’s more though and this week gave us great new releases from Ex-Vöid, The Hanging Stars, Sylvia Hansel, Todd Farrell Jr (also a few weeks old, I knew about it but forgot to include it. solo acoustic versions of Benchmarks songs etc, the songs work this way as well, still love Technicolor for example), Walter Martin, Allison de Groot & Tatiana Hargreaves, Aldous Harding, Lewis McLaughlin, Kathleen Frances (this one is also a couple of weeks old EP that I missed at the time), Young Prisms, Palm Friends (EP) and U.S. Highball.

My favorite Finnish release of the week is the album from M. Beautiful renditions of songs from the sixties. We also got an album from Riitaoja and a run of singles from Joose Keskitalo and Paavoharju, Team Play, Anton Haring, Mara Balls, Janne Tapio and Vellamo.

And finally the international (should be) hits of the week. A big deal is that we have the first single from a new Chris Bathgate album that is due out in May. I’m also very fond of the new outtakes from the forthcoming albums by Katie Spencer, Erisy Watt, Thomas Dollbaum, VanWyck and Steven Lambke. Then there’s a fabulous new Craig Finn tune and double a-side power pop blast from Uni Boys. Plus Jeremy Squires, Stanhope, Reilly Downes, Caroline Spence etc. Oh yeah a new version of one of my all time favorite songs. Nothing will beat the original, but this new version of I Don’t Care to Dance by J.E. Sunde is also a beauty. And that’s again just naming a few. There’s a whole lot more that you can find below.

That it’s for this week. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. Appreciate everything. Love from a distance.
