OCTA Music Weekly – Episode #141

Another week, another new music weekly.

This week was special. If you want to make EOTY list in December, you can make a pretty amazing top 10 just by using albums that were released on 25th of June. I’m sure I missed a ton completely and fair to say that I’ve only scratched the surface of the ones that I was aware of and did include on this post. Anyway, I tried my best to compile some sort of playlist out of these awesome releases, so let’s dive into the new music of the week.

I think it starts with the new Flora Hibberd album for me, because I’ve become such a big fan during the past year. However, picking early favorites is pretty impossible, because there’s like a dozen albums here that might become very dear to me. There’s new albums from Vincent Neil Emerson, Hiss Golden Messenger, Dana Sipos, Rose City Band (only singles on Spotify, so visit Bandcamp or record store to get the full experience. A wise thing to do with any record on any playlist of course), T. Hardy Morris, Lucy Dacus, Maple Glider, Michael Cormier, Faye Webster, Dawn Riding, Squirrel Flower, Anna Ash (EP), Massage, Hurry, 2nd Grade, The Mountain Goats, JP Harris’ Dreadful Wind & Rain, Cedric Burnside, Spellling, Pom Pom Squad, Katherine Priddy, Jesse Marchant and GoldenOak. Was that everything. God only knows.

The Finns usually dedicate midsummer for getting drunk at a summer cottage, but we did get run of fabulous singles from Bad Sauna, M, Epilä (missed this last week), The Lovematches and Muuan Mies.

Oh and let’s not forget the international, because there’s plenty of gold here. I think my favorite here is Carlene’s first single, because a) it’s wonderful b) I’ve been wanting to hear new music from Carly Maicher for a decade. New singles and album announcements from Anna Tivel and Tre Burt are also really big deal and something that I love wholeheartedly. The latest one from Andrew Bryant is pure gold too and so are the singles by Dolly Valentine, Stranded Horse, Matthew McNeal, Tim Easton, Leah Blevins, Caitlin Jemma and Sierra Ferrell. Again just to name a few. You’ll find them all below.

That’s all for this week. I’m on vacation from the day job for the next two weeks. A large chunk of that will be dedicated to resting and watching football, but I try to do some blog stuff too now that I have the time. At least a few of those round up thingies and maybe some sort of quick mid-year list too. Love from a distance.

OCTA Music Weekly – Episode #140

Another week, another new music weekly.

A slightly behind schedule this week. I was just too worn out to do this yesterday. Thankfully just one week to go until vacation (albeit a pretty hell-ish week due to the midsummer hassle in the potato and vegetable industry). After that I’ll rest and hopefully do some blog stuff. Maybe like a mid-year list of some sorts, because I haven’t praised enough music outside of these new music weeklies. And I suppose I need to decide whether I want to celebrate that 20 years of music blogging. I think I’m leaning towards no, because it might be too much to handle in the shape that I’ve been for the past year and this also doesn’t feel like the time to ask free favors from artists (whether it would be live or online, it’s not like I have any money to spent on it). Anyway, time to dive into the new music of the week.

My album of the week is the new Joe Bourdet album Meadow Rock. A real special one there for sure. Other wonderful album releases this week came from K.C. Jones, Jess Jocoy (EP), Amythyst Kiah, Daniel Romano’s Outfit (live record, vinyl later), Country Westerns (EP), Nick Ferrio (Canadian liner note hero released a great album of his own music), Kings of Convenience (a most welcome comeback, quiet is still the new loud), Lady Nade, Mr. Husband, Amy Helm, Dylan LeBlanc, Darby Sparkman (EP) andJack Droppers & The Best Intentions.

The Finnish highlight of the week is the long-waited debut album from Tams. Other beautiful Finnish treasures on the list are singles from Arppa, Jukka Nissinen, J.Kajan, Itä-Hollola Installaatio and album from Pykäri.

The international song of the week is the new song by Matthew Milia. He is probably my favorite songwriter of the past decade and therefore this new album announcement is a big deal for me. The new song is not on Spotify, so you won’t find it from the playlist. However, you’ll find Salad Bars from Bandcamp with pre-order possibilities. The other big single for me this week is the second single from Jeremy Ferrara’s forthcoming album. This one is even better than the first time. And of course there’s far more from such great artists like Rose City Band, Drew Beskin,Rod Gator, Justin Wells, Kate Vargas, Ryan Curtis, Darrin Bradbury, Theo Lawrence, Spencer Cullum, T.Hardy Morris, Judy Blank & Dylan Earl, Jackie Venson, Kyle Cox & Franc Castillejos and Margo Price (Roky cover). Just to name a few.

That’s all for this week. Love from a distance.

OCTA Music Weekly – Episode #139

Another week, another new music weekly.

Probably plenty of things flew under my radar this week, because a) I’ve been sick all week long b) I did this very quickly on Saturday morning due to EURO2020 (Finland will play this evening). That is my main focus this weekend instead of new releases. However, there’s a really lot of those beautiful album and single releases this weekend including lots of big personal favorites. OCTA Music Weekly – Episode #138

Another week, another new music weekly.

Summer and first dose of vaccine has arrived. Which is nice even if it doesn’t help me from finally fully recovering from whatever bug I caught back in march 2020. Oh yeah and there’s plenty of records to love as well. So let’s not drag this into a personal mumbo jumbo territory and instead go to the finest new music of the week.

My highlight’s of the week are the new albums by Turner Cody & The Soldiers of Love and Tristen.
