OCTA 18th Anniversary – Evan Cheadle

This last day will be mostly full of encores from artists that have already appeared during this anniversary week, but we will have one or two new artists too with a wonderful late submission(s). First we travel on to Victoria, British Columbia to meet up with Canadian singer-songwriter Evan Cheadle. During the recent years you may have come to know him as the guitarist for The Deep Dark Woods, but he also has this fabulous and timeless solo material that I love dearly. Evan Cheadle’s contribution to this celebration is a beautiful version of Cold Cold Ground. Original can be found from his 2018 EP Chasing Shadows, which is a must listen if you love things like psychedelic folk, country blues, english ballads and baroque pop. And well who wouldn’t.

OCTA 18th Anniversary – Mitä helvettiä nyt taas (encore)

We kick off the last day of the festival in Vaasa, Finland with a wonderful double encore from Mitä helvettiä nyt taas. They play for us the singles Joka päivä töitä teen and Sitä mitä pelkään and seem to have fun while doing it. Both singles originally came out in 2017 and can be found from Spotify for example.

OCTA 18th Anniversary – Barna Howard

Wrapping up day 7 of the anniversary week with something that is very special to me in multiple ways. I think this particular song was my introduction to both Barna Howard and Mama Bird Recording Co. One came to be one of my favorite songwriters and the other my favorite record label in the world. After hearing this song and Portland Sessions video with a few more, I ordered the LP from Mama Bird and fell in love with Barna Howard’s songwriting. And here I am seven years later still loving Barna’s songwriting with all my heart and clicking love to every Lyle the Intern picture I see. Music is no damn competition, but Quite A Feelin’ was the album of the year on this blog when it came out in 2015 and the self-titled debut album was #2 back in 2012. So that’s further proof how much I love his songs and how much it matters to be able to represent this song for you. Here’s Barna Howard with a wonderful version of Promise, I Won’t Laugh. That’s it for tonight. See you tomorrow for the last day of this anniversary week.

OCTA 18th Anniversary – The Other Years

Next our anniversary festival sets its stage somewhere outdoors in Louisville, Kentucky. That’s at least where the The Other Years are from, I’m not 100% sure where they shot this amazing video. Anna Louise and Heather Summers released their debut album as The Other Years in October, 2018 and I love it so much. The whole thing is marvellous and then there’s Talkeetna that was one of my favorite songs last year. I’m honored that they wanted to join our birthday party with an absolutely beautiful version of Siren by Joan Shelley. Guitar, fiddle and two beautiful voices is enough to create something utterly magical.
