Daisy – Ornament & Crime

Major news alert! Stop the pop press. A new Daisy album Ornament & Crime will be released on the 26th of May by Karhuvaltio Records. It’s been a while since 2009’s Daydream, but oh my, they certainly haven’t lost their ability to create wonderful pop songs during their long hiatus. I’m just listening to the album for the first time, because it found its way to Spotify a day early and I probably have never been this excited about the band. Super good pop record and I can’t wait to spend the summer under the melodic guidance of this new Daisy album. Here are the magnificent singles Little Love and Haven’t Always Been This Way to get things started.

Gentle Brent – Just Dandy

It’s finally getting warmer over here and there’s summer in my heart. A perfect time for some pop magic filled with catchy melodies and lovely vocal harmonies. Brent Randall is a Canadian pop wizard who has previously released songs with The Pinecones. First orchestral pop beauties as Brent Randall and The Magnificent Pinecones and then as just The Pinecones that was closer to power pop. Now Brent is operating under the name Gentle Brent and one of the finest indie pop labels Jigsaw Records put out his new album in March 2017. I immediately grabbed a download, because I love the guy, but haven’t been listening to it that much until now. I was kind of waiting for the right time and now it has arrived. I’m ready to go outside for a walk, put the headphones and singalong to these awesome pop songs with a stupid smile on my face. This is There’s a Girl from Gentle Brent’s new album Just Dandy.

BMX Bandits – BMX Bandits Forever

Again a few weeks flew by without any posts. Lately I just haven’t had what this takes, but tonight I’m listening to a new BXM Bandits album and this is all love. Albeit often the hurting kind, because BMX Bandits have created a beautifully sad pop album. The hurt never gets unbearable though, because even when there’s heartache in the lyrics, there’s heartwarming smiles in the music. I’m probably smiling even more than I should, but I just can’t help it. Even a sad BMX Bandits song is a warm smile, a gentle hug and a shoulder to lean on and always a complete match with my overly romantic heart.

BMX Bandits has been creating wondrous pop magic for 30+ years and long may it continue. BMX Bandits Forever indeed. No Matter What You Say and Love Me ‘Til My Heart Stops are perfect pop songs on all accounts and the whole new record is absolutely gorgeous. Thanks again Duglas T Stewart, you beautiful man. Even though I don’t know him personally, this BMX Bandits front man is also sort of a pop mentor to me. Over the years, I’ve spent hours listening the songs he has shared on his twitter or TFC boards and he has introduced me to a lot of songs that I probably would have never found without him. Thanks for that too Duglas T Stewart, you beautiful man.

BMX Bandits Forever was released on the 19th of May on the classic Spanish pop label Elefant Records.
