Courtney Marie Andrews in Finland on the 26th of March

I’m not gonna start posting concert news regularly, but I’m gonna do an exception this time around due to the magnitude of this. One of my favorite songwriters Courtney Marie Andrews will be playing in Helsinki on the 26th of March. Leuven Letters was an EP of the year here years back and since then she has been one of my most listened artists. Big thanks to Silmien Takana for bringing such a great songwriter to Finland. I hope I see you all in Helsinki next week. The concert will probably focus on the material of the wonderful 2022 album Loose Future, but here’s also some personal favorites from the older releases. Listen them below, grap a ticket from Tiketti and let’s meet in Helsinki on the 26th.

Loose Future (Loose Future 2022)

Burlap String (Old Flowers 2020)

May Your Kindness Remain (May Your Kindness Remain, 2018)

How Quickly Your Heart Mends & Honest Life (2017)

Steady Holiday, Juni Habel, Nighttime and Nico Paulo

Another quick blog entry of songs and albums that I love. Starting with a Steady Holiday appreciation. Listening to LA-based Dre Babinski makes me immensely happy. There’s some kind of magic here, because that happens even during the darker moments of the songs. Somehow that warmth and empathy just shines through all the time. New album Newfound Oxygen came out on the 17th of February and it’s again filled with beautiful dreamy indie pop songs. Here’s a couple of fabulous music videos/singles along with one of my favorite songs Asleep.

Another early favorite of the year comes from Norway. Songwriter Juni Habel has made a really beautiful, gentle and fragile folk album. Carvings came out in January on Basin Rock and Ba Da Bing Records. I’m more than mildly addicted to the the song I Went Out and Sought for Your Name.

And more gems from the Ba Da Bing vaults. Eva Louise Goodman’s Nighttime released a magical new album Keeper Is the Heart in January. Here’s a couple of favorites from this beautiful album.

Let’s wrap this little blog entry with a timeless and charming single Time from the forthcoming self-titled Nico Paulo album. This debut album by this Portuguese-Canadian songwriter will come out April 7th on Forward Music Group. I’ve marked that date on my calendar ever since I heard this song.

Abe Partridge and Slaid Cleaves

Another quick set of songs that I love. This time in a more folk surroundings. Abe Partridge is a folk singer-songwriter and visual artist from Mobile, Alabama. I’m a bit late here and only found him a few months ago. But now I’m really digging his stuff both old and new. Here’s a couple of recent ones that are quite different, but equally wonderful. New album Love In The Dark will be released by Baldwin Co. Public Records May 12, 2023

From Love in the Dark to Together Through the Dark. That’s the title of the latest Slaid Cleaves album. He’s an awesome folk storyteller from Wimberley, Texas. A whole lot of great songwriting here. My own favorite is Next Heartbreak. It’s quite a heavy hitter about somehow getting through the hardships of life before getting struck by another curve ball. Such a great record.

I meant to add a couple more, but it’s 1am and I need some sleep. So maybe there’s more to come. Who knows.

Vanity Mirror, The Lost Days, Bart and Dakota Theim

A couple things I’ve loved lately. Felt like sharing a few songs. Probably won’t happen again. First a timeless pop treasure in the vein of Emitt Rhodes from Vanity Mirror. Brent Randall is a long time fave in this pop game and together with Johnny Toomey he has released quite a gem. Love the music video too. I can’t wait to hear the full album PUFF that will be released in May by We Are Busy Bodies.

How about a couple of favorites Tony Molina and Sarah Rose Janko working together? Well count me in for sure. This single In the Store has some TFC vibes too and that’s never a bad thing. Full album by The Lost Days is out this Friday March 17th on Speakeasy Studios SF. Mighty good new label by the way. I’ve loved pretty much everything they’ve released so far.

Next up the latest sophisticated pop beauty from Toronto’s Bart. What a treasure once again. If you find me shouting the name Bart from the rooftops, this is what I’m praising. What a song. What a band. New album Some Kind of Way out on Idee Fixe Records in May.

Let’s wrap up this one with one of the latest singles from Portland’s Dakota Theim. He has been one of my favorite pop guys during the recent years and I love these new tunes as well. Not exactly sure is there an album on the way or are these separate singles. Anyway, here’s Angeline.
