Aaron Lee Tasjan – Silver Tears

image

The new Aaron Lee Tasjan song Little Movies premiered over at NPR earlier in the week and it has been my favourite song in the world since then. ALT has been damn good for a long time, but this is still on a whole another level. It’s also a bit different than what I was expecting. Heck, actually this one also fits quite nicely under that “pop site” subtitle unlike most of the stuff I post these days. So maybe I was expecting something like this from the new Cotton Mather album for example (which I still haven’t heard, have to fix that soon) instead of Aaron Lee Tasjan. Nothing to complain about it though. I absolutely love this song. It’s brilliant and shines brighter than his suit. The album Silver Tears will come out on New West Records in late October. There’s also a pledge campaign going on at the moment, if you want to support the release by pre-ordering.

Here’s the new Aaron Lee Tasjan song Little Movies. The best music thing in my world right now.

Kuningas Yrjö – Mustelma myrskyn silmässä

I haven’t featured much Finnish music lately, but it’s time to change that, because there’s a lot of good stuff out and available. Let’s kick off things with the new Kuningas Yrjö album Mustelma myrskyn silmässä that came out today on Äänetön. You might know him as the front man of TV-Resistori and Hiljaiset kallot and in case you do know him, you also know that he is spectacular and this solo release is a must have album. Here are a couple of examples from different ends of his sound spectrum. Both are equally brilliant.

Adam Remnant – When I Was a Boy EP

image

Lately I’ve been spinning the new Adam Remnant EP When I Was a Boy. Adam is an Ohio-based songwriter and he used to be the frontman of a great band called Southeast Engine. I had no clue he had a solo release coming out, but thankfully Captains Dead (one of my most trusted music sources) pointed me towards this.

Anyway, When I Was a Boy is out now on Trailer Fire Records and it’s pretty amazing. I’m not entirely sure am I smiling or crying while listening to it, because the struggles of adulthood certainly hits close home. Maybe striked even a bit too close when I was driving home after an 11-hour work shift and the opening lines of this song called There Beside Me started playing in the car stereo.

The real standout track of the EP is still this phenomenal closing song Rewriting Tomorrow. Oh my. This song. Everything about this song.

Album of the Month: Andy Shauf – The Party

image

I guess I need to make another quick post about the new Andy Shauf album The Party, because it has been standing on that album of the month slot for couple of months. This Canadian songwriter is just utterly brilliant. Actually if I did some sort of mid-year list for 2016, this would probably be on the first place. Well it’s either this or the last Richmond Fontaine album. At least that’s how I feel about it now. Things might change by the time we get to December, but there isn’t an any kind indication that my love for this album would start fading away. It’s an absolute beauty of an album and I love it to bits. A wonderfully orchestrated and arranged collection of songs that makes me forget time and place and I end up dragged into the life of these people, their stories and narratives. The Party is a colourful pop masterpiece. All songs are winners, but my favourite is probably Martha Sways that ends the album in perfect fashion. Five hearts any day of the week. The Party is now out on ANTI- (US/Europe) Arts & Crafts (Canada).
