OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #177

Another week, another new music weekly.

Let’s start with the Finnish ones this time around, because there’s a wonderful new Sur-rur album out and available. It’s a 75 minute monster. Maybe that’s a tad too much, but hard to complain because especially on the first half all songs are pretty much 5/5. Love it. The new singles from Puhelinseksi and Jani Matti Juhani are also big favorites. Other great Finnish releases this week are albums from Lone Deer Laredo and J.A. Mäki plus singles from Muuan Mies, Nina Kaitaranta, Emilia Elele and KATI.

Jerry Leger and Jacob Miller can share the international album of the week title. I listened both albums a couple of times last night and really enjoyed them. This week also got beautiful albums from Fortunato Durutti Marinetti, M Ross Perkins, Jesper Lindell, Hailey Whitters, Ben Chapman (this one’s a few weeks old, thanks to Farce for the intro), Ray Wylie Hubbard, Steve Dawson, Andy Bilinski and Midlake. Oh yeah and Sonic Youth too. Didn’t include it on the playlist though, because it was mostly ten minute songs and this was already too long. You don’t need my blog to know and love Sonic Youth.

The international song of the week is the new MJ Lenderman single. Ok, this was already one of my favorite songs of 2021, but he made a new version for the forthcoming album and I still love this song madly. Other big favorites of the week came from Johanna Samuels, David James Allen, Sylvia Rose Novak, Carla Geneve, John Craigie, Chris Brain, Vincent Neil Emerson, The Deep Dark Woods, Li’l Andy, John Craigie, Fernando Viciconte, Ryan Necci and the Buffalo Gospel, Kaitlin Butts and Abigail Lapell. Again just to name a few. And yeah a few of those are covers, but great versions.

That’s all for this week. Back to following NHL insiders and hitting F5 on Hfboards trade forum. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. All that may seem pointless, but it matters. Without all that I have no way of knowing, if anybody cares or am I just wasting all these hours to make a playlist for myself. Love from a distance.

Oh and do buy the vinyl/cd/download. Spotify and other streaming services are perfect for these introductory purposes, but try to buy at least the music that matter the most to you

If you are looking this after a week has gone, the embedded Spotify will show the latest playlist. I’ll just update the same playlist because a) if someone wants to follow it, they can just follow that one list and will get a new set of songs each Sunday b) so that I don’t have a trillion of different playlists on my Spotify account. OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #176

Another week, another new music weekly.

I don’t really know if I should even keep making these, but maybe music and art make sense even when the world doesn’t.

Maybe a tiny bit slower release week, but somehow I still managed to make this longer than anyone will listen. So far I’ve spent most time with the lovely Apollo Ghosts album so maybe that’s the album of the week. There’s also great new albums from Young Guv, Jake Nicoll, Jeremy Ivey, Karl Blau, Brad Armstrong, Bastards of Soul, Tone of Voice Orchestra, Widowspeak, John Earle Mainord, Johno Leeroy & JLR Band, Mike Clark & The Sugar Sounds and Mousey.

From Finland the big ones are the new albums from Antti Autio and ambient-jazz duo Tapani Rinne & Juha Mäki-Patola. We also have singles from The New Magnetic North (this has been on bandcamp before), Bobby Oroza, Teksti-TV 666, Evita (this came out a week ago).

My favorite international single is the new Scott Ballew song. Really love both advance singles from his forthcoming album. Other favorites this week came from Tre Burt, Shaela Miller, Jacksonport, Beau Jennings & The Tigers, Icarus Phoenix, Shoulder Season, Sean Thompson’s Weird Ears and Leyla McCalla. Just to name a few.

That’s all for this week. Like mentioned last week, this won’t be on Apple anymore. My apologies for the few who followed me there. So it’s Tidal and Spotify at least for now. Love from a distance.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #175

Another week, another new music weekly.

I don’t really know if I should even keep making these, but maybe music and art make sense even when the world doesn’t.

The album of the week has to be the new Dakota Hall Scott album with the new Darren Hanlon close by. Love that Gus Clark too. I think it has been on Bandcamp before, so maybe not exactly new but new to streaming and a mighty good one. New Joe Purdy and The Weather Station also always something to love and cherish. And as usual there’s a whole lot more. There’s new albums from Allegra Krieger, Rhyan Sinclair, Band of Horses, Guided By Voices, Ross Jenkins, Kristine Leschper, Matt Andersen, Loney Hutchins (reissue), Babehoven (EP), Beacheads, Landon Lloyd Miller, Shane Parish, KAINA, The Dip and Madi Diaz (EP).

The big one from Finland is the debut album from Pambikallio. There’s also a run of singles from Mikael H, Samae Koskinen, Ilja Karsikas, Salla Karonen, Dinosaurusten pelastajat and Merkkarit & Kai Kuutamo (maybe kids music, but works for adults too). And a revisit to last week’s Amuri album.

My favorite international single of the week is the new beauty from Matt Dorrien. Other big favorites from S.G. Goodman, Tommy Alexander (this is double single and I love em both), Caroline Spence, Ian Noe, Mama’s Broke, Belle & Sebastian, Joshua Hedley, John Craigie, Jacob Miller, Pete Mancini and Anders Jörnesten. Just to name a few. They would all be worthy of a namedrop and often something I don’t mention here becomes a big favorite during the week. I don’t exactly know all these by heart the time I post this.

That’s all for this week. I don’t know will I manage to do a whole lot more at the moment. What is happening in the world is so horrible that it’s hard to get mind off it plus it almost makes promoting music feel wrong. I’ll keep this new music weekly still going on, because I need both the routine and the music to keep me sane. So back next weekend with another new music weekly if the blog/world still exists. I think I will drop Apple Music next week before I get charged for another month, because I don’t have the money to pay for three streaming services. My apologies if you listen this over there. I guess I could go to Submithub or something just to get enough money for the monthly fees, but I don’t really want to take that route. So most likely just Tidal and Spotify from now on. Love from a distance.
