OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #243

Another very quick summer edition of the new music weekly. After this it’s (unfortunately for me) back to normal routine, because the vacation is over and day job waits. I’m sure there’s a lot missing, because live music took my time again.

Beth Bombara and William Matheny can share the album of the week title. We also got new albums from Mikaela Davis, Fanny Lumsden, Joshua Ray Walker (covers), Chris Farren, Florry, Thorsten Nesch (EP), Crossed Wires (EP), Josienne Clarke (acoustic EP).

From Finland there’s albums from Kuningas Yrjö and Lettoman plus singles from Modem, Amuri, Kari Tapiiri and Tanssiva Karhu.

Some early favorite international singles came from Amber Rae Slade, Will Johnson, Charles Wesley Godwin, Vanity Mirror, Hurry, Maybel, Carla Geneve and Diners. Just to name a few. I’ve barely listened what I included this time around, so I’ll need to listen this thoroughly myself too.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. Hopefully better job (well hobby) next week, because I will have more time to listen to new music. Unless I find myself on some festival again. Who knows. But yeah, business as usual at least until 250 episodes. Love love love.

Oh and do buy the vinyl/cd/download. Spotify and other streaming services are perfect for these introductory purposes, but try to buy at least the music that matter the most to you

I’ll make the playlist on Spotify and then transfer it to Tidal. This means a few tracks might be missing from the Tidal version, if they are not available on that platform. Usually it’s 1-3 tracks that are not on Tidal. There’s a bunch of older episodes on my Spotify profile, if you miss an episode or want to revisit.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #242

Another quick delayed vacation edition of the new music weekly. I was away from home all week and only got back on Saturday evening. I haven’t really had the time to listen all that much of new music and I’m sure there’s stuff missing. But here’s what I managed to find in one day.

The album of the week is The Clientele. I loved them many moons ago and well still do. I look forward to giving their new one a proper spin as soon as I have the time. We also got new albums from Pia Fraus, Jordan Moser, Steve Marino, The Big Net, Tuba Skinny, Jim Rioux, Susto, Anders Jörnesten, Mary Kate Teske, Nora Brown and Stephanie Coleman (EP), Hutchie (EP), Alice Faye (EP), Red Sleeping Beauty (EP) and Small Paul.

From Finland the big one is a new double single from all time faves Penniless. We also got a couple of new albums from Rakkaudella Janne and Uudet Härmälän Pelimannit plus singles from Vulvarutto and The Lovematches. Emilia Sisco’s single is something I managed to miss a week ago. I’m ashemed about that, because it’s absolute wonderful. Oh and I included another song from last week’s Jenna-Marie Laine album at the end of the playlist. I didn’t praise that enough a week ago. I listened it a couple of times this week and loved it. A really beautiful album.

The song of the week is of course the new Tyler Childers single about the relationship of gay coal miners. Exactly what country music needs from an artist with a large following. Well done Tyler and everyone involved it the single and music video. Other early faves came from Colored Lights, Smith and Tegio, Evangeline Gentle, Holy Matter and so forth. Lots of soul gems this week too.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. One more vacation week ago. Country Club Festival next weekend in Turku, so it probably will be a Sunday update again. Love love love.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #240

A quick delayed new music weekly, because live music took over my weekend. First Kassi Valazza concert on Friday and then Savulohirock on Saturday. I only began listening to new stuff this Sunday evening, so I haven’t had time to listen a whole lot. But here it goes anyway.

Sam Burton and Colter Wall are my big double this week. Pretty sure I’m going to love those records when I have the time to properly listen to them during the coming week. Plenty of other most likely great things too. There’s albums from Hayward Williams, Ryan Curtis, Jackson and the Janks, Eric Long, Palehound, Gabe Lee, Josaleigh Pollett and The Goods (EP).

From Finland there’s new singles from Litku Klemetti and Väisänen. Plus a few months old from Kot-kat. A new band for me that I saw live at Savulohirock and liked them. So I included their latest single here too.

Plenty of international singles too. I’ve barely listened them at this point so kinda impossible to name some big faves here. But I look forward to listening to new Tre Burt, Beth Bombara, Joey O’Neil, Jacksonport, Rae Fitzgerald, Bonnie Prince Billy, Bahamas, Logan Ledger and so forth. There’s also a fabulous Nanci Griffith cover by Kelsey Waldon and late John Prine.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. I’m on vacation for the next three weeks. Plans are still a bit up in the air after this weekend’s Tampere trip. Well other than Ilmiö Festival and especially Kristiina concert. So new music weekly might or might not happen during this time. Or it might happen outside weekend. I’ll let you know on the social media, if the update frequency is different from the usual routine. Love.
